Combine Harvesters

A combine harvester is a farming vehicle. It is a great invention, as it passes the grain through a serie of processors. The name combined refers to the various tasks that this machine is able to perform. This equipment is able to harvest, thresh and clean grain.

The harvesting of grain begins by passing it through the harvester's header. There are different types of headers meant for various kinds of crops. The header directs the grain to a turning wheel with teeth and bars for grasping the plants. The wheel in turn, passes the crop down to the cutter bar. The threshing of the crop is done in the threshing drum. The grain passes through a sieve into a tank while the chaff is delivered to a straw walker and disposed off as the machine moves. The harvester is offloaded once the tank bearing the grain is full.

History

Cyrus Hall McCormick invented the first harvester around 1836. Hall's machine was dubbed the McCormick Reaper. At first, the machine was noisy but its design was later improved to make it more efficient and less noisy.
